Mathematics

 At Southfield, we aim to provide our children with a range of stimulating activities in daily lessons which equip them with the ability to solve problems and apply their mathematical knowledge to a variety of questions, effectively deconstructing them into a series of simpler steps and persevering when seeking solutions.

One of the key pillars of our school curriculum is mathematical understanding. We place high emphasis on building a solid foundation to our pupil’s mathematic learning. By developing a core understanding of the basic Four Number operations and showing our pupils how to exploit this knowledge in order to calculate quickly and effectively, we seek to equip them with fluency in the subject.

Our teachers provide pupils with the skills needed to reason mathematically and provide justifications for their thinking by creating engaging, stimulating lessons which result in positive experiences for all children, fostering a love and passion for the subject.
